Family Tree

We all see the picture

That hangs in the frame,

Arms around each other

And smiles all the same

But can you see the husband

With a glint in his eye

Sliding his hand

Up a teenagers thigh,

Taking down the trousers

That conceal his wedding ring

And hoping his wife

Doesn’t suspect anything

A happy happy family

All branches of the same tree

We all see the picture

That’s in pride of place

A loving family in

A warm embrace

But can you see the wife

Almost in a coma

Whiskey and vomit

Her choice of aroma

Who can’t remember much

Of the last three days

And spends most of her time

In an alcohol fueled daze

A happy happy family

All branches of the same tree

We all see the picture

Hung by the fire

A bouquet of flowers

That will never expire

But can you see the daughter

The eldest of three

Straddled upon a

Strangers knee

A cocktail of drugs

She has in her system

She used to have morals

But somehow she’s missed them

Who smiles at the camera

And pretends to enjoy

Being passed around

Like a worthless toy

A happy happy family

All branches of the same tree

We all see the picture

That hangs on the wall

Viewed by so many

And envied by all

But can you see the son

The middle child

Hurting and bullying

And just running wild

Stealing pocket money

And making lives hell

Making others dread

The sound of last bell

Who wouldn’t think twice

Before eating your food

Then placing it back

In your hand once chewed

A happy happy family

All branches of the same tree

We all see the picture

That hangs there so proud

You would never have thought

That they ever have rowed

But can you see the youngest child

Hidden in her room

Enveloping herself in

Nothing but doom

With scars on the parts

Of her body she hides

They’re all over her arms

And on most of her thighs

But she cannot stop it

It makes her feel freed

Watching the slices as

They start to bleed

A happy happy family

All branches of the same tree

A tree that has roots

That are twisted and rotten

With secrets and lies

That cannot be forgotten

Who’s saps filled with poison

That eats at the skin

Rubbing so closely

With their next of kin

The inside is crawling

With maggots and worms

Scratch at the surface

It’ll make you squirm

A warped and twisted family

The broken branches of their tree
